Mr. John Dickey, Superintendent

Washington County Superintendent of Education John Dickey has served the students of the school system since January, 2017.  Mr. Dickey was elected as a public official by the majority of the voting population in the 2016 General Election.

Mr. Dickey is a life-long resident of Washington County, serving the last 25 years in the school system. Prior to his tenure in education, Mr. Dickey worked in the private sector in Washington and surrounding counties. He has mostly been involved in the timber business, but has worked also in industry, construction, and in the oil field.

Mr. Dickey is a 1979 graduate of Washington County High School and holds an AS degree in Forestry, a BS degree in Elementary Education, and Master’s degrees in both Secondary Math and School Leadership.

Mr. Dickey began serving as a teacher in Washington County in 1997 at Chatom Middle School. From August 1998 until October of 2003, he served the students of McIntosh High School. Mr. Dickey then taught at Washington County High School until he became Superintendent in 2017.

Mr. Dickey lives near Chatom with his wife of 37 years, Tammy, who is also a career educator. Together, they have three sons, Bud, Kyle, and Patrick, whom are also products of the Washington County School System. Kaden, their eight year old grandson also attends school in Washington County.
