Child Find

“Child Find”

The Washington County Board of Education serves all children with disabilities as required by law.

The agency has developed and is implementing “Child Find” procedures that ensure that all children within its jurisdiction, birth to 21, regardless of severity of their disability, and who need special education and related services, are identified, located, and evaluated.

This “Child Find” effort applies to children who attend private school including children attending religious schools within its jurisdiction, highly mobile children with disabilities(i.e. migrant and homeless children), and children who are suspected of having a disability and are in need of special education services even though they are advancing from grade to grade.

The areas of disabilities are:

Hearing Impairment

Deaf-Blindness

Intellectual Disabilities

Multiple Disabilities

Orthopedic Impairment

Other Health Impairment

Emotional Disturbance

Speech and Language Impairment

Visual Impairment

Specific Learning Disabilities

Autism

Traumatic Brain Injury

Developmental Delay

Assistance is needed in locating children with disabilities.
